Teaching:

I teach extensively on two MSc courses (Risk Management and Health Informatics) at CHIME, UCL, mainly around research methods and statistics. I also support and supervise MSc dissertations. I have also taught undergraduates in the Psychology Department (on research methods and statistics) and the Medical School (on e-learning). I have done a small number of lectures on statistics and quantitative methods for an MSc in Transcultural Mental Healthcare at Barts and The London, Queen Mary's School of Medicine and Dentistry. While working at UCL, I was also the external supervisor on a project by a student on the MSc in Ergonomics.

Computer skills:

In statistics, I am practised in the use of STATA and SPSS, with some experience in MINITAB and S-Plus. I have designed and run a website at work (for the Centre for Statistics in Medicine) and continue to do so for pleasure (see below) and have some experience in writing HTML. I am familiar with the usual office software (MSWord, MSExcel etc.).

Other interests:

Progressive rock music:

I run a set of webpages about the band Yes. This includes authoring and maintaining the FAQ ('frequently asked questions') for the newsgroup alt.music.yes, the much visited Where are they now? (which currently averages over 650 unique visitors per day) and carrying out interviews. I also contribute to some related on-line newsletters (Notes from the Edge, Armada, What's Rattlin') and Web pages (e.g. Musart on-line conversations), including Wikipedia. Off-line, I have assisted with an article on Yes in the French magazine Big Bang (issue 25) and books on the band Asia and Yes.

Postgraduate student unionism:

At the Institute of Psychiatry, I helped form a student union (IoPSU), writing the constitution in the process, and was the External Liaison Officer until I left. I took part in negotiations leading to merger, as the Institute of Psychiatry, along with the United Medical and Dental School, was merging with King's College, London. With ULU, I helped encourage postgraduate student representation elsewhere in London, presenting to an education group at the Institute of Neurology and advising the Royal Postgraduate Medical School's nascent student union.

At Oxford, I worked in the Oxford University Students' Union (OUSU) Graduate Committee in various roles. I was the main author of the Graduate Committee's response to the Coopers & Lybrand Report on the Governance of the University; and worked on a survey of colleges' provision of services to postgraduates.
